Since its inception in 1973, TSS (Traffic Safety Systems) has firmly established itself as a major supplier of traffic law enforcement and mobile video surveillance technology, satisfying the growing demand of local authorities, police and emergency services in the UK and overseas countries for this type of specialised equipment.
Its innovative product range includes: vehicle mounted CCTV systems, roadside safety enforcement cameras and hand held laser and radar speed meters: all designed to enhance road safety by the effective monitoring of driver behaviour. The strength of TSS’s reputation in such a critical area is underlined by the fact that in the UK alone, all 52 police forces can be counted amongst its customers - making it very much the UK market leader. Of course, TSS is much more than just an equipment supplier; its commitment to its customers is reflected in specialised knowledge, comprehensive vehicle installation service, operational and technical training and on going customer support.
The solutions which TSS offers, fall into three major areas: roadside speed detection, mobile traffic enforcement - for moving speed detection and illegal driver behaviour - and mobile CCTV surveillance to combat anti social behaviour and street crime reduction.
Roadside Speed Enforcement
In terms of roadside speed detection, TSS provides a wide range of flexible, high accuracy hand held and tripod mounted radar and laser speed meters, which have the ability to operate effectively at long range in all weather conditions. This provides police officers with the tools they need to combat speeding, particularly in built-up urban areas and known accident blackspots. In addition to hand held devices, TSS can also provide a comprehensive range of roadside enforcement cameras for both fixed and portable operation, which cannot be detected by anti speed measurement systems.
Traffic Control on the Move
In addition to static roadside solutions, TSS has a number of systems, which can be fitted in car or mounted on police motorcycles, tailored to the specific needs of a particular vehicle or police force. |

These range from the latest compact speed detection equipment, which can be easily transferred from vehicle to vehicle if required, to multi-application traffic offence recording systems, incorporating VASCAR or radar devices to gather video evidence of speeding or poor driver behaviour. The operational capabilities of such systems can be enhanced through an optional multi-camera facility, GSM or microwave helicopter down link, Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) and the incorporation of advanced Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR).
Now as part of AD Group, TSS is starting to benefit from the Group’s shared technology base. One of the first benefits of this association for TSS is being able to offer a law enforcement version of the sophisticated TransVu mobile multi-camera digital video recorder to its customers, a system which has already proven its worth in demanding public transport applications.
Tackling Street Crime
Purpose-built mobile CCTV systems from TSS have been instrumental in helping the Police and Local Authorities to tackle street crime and anti social behavior in communities across the UK and overseas, making them safer and more pleasant for everyone. These systems can be used in static mode or on the move and provide the facility for CCTV on every street corner. Systems fitted to high conspicuity vehicles provide an overt visible deterrent to potential offenders but can equally be used covertly for discreet surveillance as part of ongoing investigations. Where incidents do occur, evidence can be readily gathered by advanced CCTV cameras with high power zoom and low light capabilities, sometimes mounted on specialist masts providing enhanced surveillance capabilities. By providing a permanent record of situations encountered, the likelihood of the successful prosecution of offenders is greatly increased - something, which is certainly welcomed by the police.
